Today is Indonesia’s independence day. It was even more special that today is Sunday, the day when we have routine practice on court. Well, I never think that there is gonna be an event on court as we were requested to dress in white and red. Those are the colours of our national flag. Well, finally we knew that there were games, challenges or whatever you call it. I always have good feeling and memory on the independence day. Back when I was kid, I used to watch cultural and art festival in my hometown, faraway in East Java. In my village, I routinely participated at local games like balap karung, lomba bakiak, sunggi tempeh, makan krupuk, thuthuk kendhil, balap nekeran and many more. And guess what? I won every single year that surely made me have winning presents, what a competitive childhood it was a haha.
When I was at senior high school, I was in the team of marching competition. We, all participating teams, had to march from morning till night while singing national and heroic songs all over the road. No question that it was tiring. Man, you can imagine how far and many kilometres we walked on a haha. Another memory was having invitation and finally attended independence ceremony at the National Palace in Jakarta.
Well, lets get back to the tennis club. This tennis club is the new club that I recently joined three weeks ago. Its name is Men’s Health Indonesia (MHI) Tennis Club. Ya, sounds like man magazine name because it was established by indeed MHI forum members. To know more about this club, you can check this cool website http://www.mhitennis.com
During the celebration of Indonesia’s independence, there were 4 groups consisting of 4-5 people. We were challenged to do 5 games. It was fun one but surely difficult to do. I could not mention the games name in English because I think there is no such term in English for that:
- We get to hit the tennis ball by racket to the jar
- We get to do sarong marathon which is handing over sarong among team members from hand to hand
- We get to put the pencil in the bottle
- We get to form word of answer from the asked questions with letter put on the chest and back of all participant
- We get to hand over rubber ring from mouth to mouth by using straw
See how funny the games were a haha! We definitely enjoyed the games because maybe the last time we did it was years ago. It was so much fun!
And eventually after racing in term of scores, my group won the first prize. Wohoo! How competitive the team was a haha. Special prize for special moment: awesome!
Personally I hope that Indonesia will much be better. I would like to see Indonesia with peace, prosperity, & kindness 🙂
